Bluffs Grand Ho Tram - Spotlight

Perched dramatically on Vietnam’s southern coastline, around two hours from Ho Chi Minh City, this is golf that feels elemental — wind-swept, daring, and alive. A course that feels it has evolved from the natural landscape, raw, rugged and utterly unforgettable.

Designed by Greg Norman, The Bluffs opened in 2014 and was immediately hailed as one of Asia’s great modern courses. Set amidst towering coastal dunes overlooking the East Sea, the setting alone is worth the journey. Norman has long spoken about “letting the land dictate the golf”, and here that philosophy has been taken to heart. The Bluffs doesn’t so much sit on the landscape as flow through it, rising and falling with the natural contours, every hole shaped by wind, sand, and imagination.

What strikes you straight away is the sense of scale. Fairways twist and tumble across dramatic elevation changes, with vistas that stretch endlessly along the coast. This isn’t gentle resort golf, it’s bold, exhilarating, and at times unpredictable. The wind here is a constant companion, shifting in strength and direction, ensuring no two rounds ever play the same.

The opening holes set the tone beautifully. The par-4 3rd, climbing up through the dunes to a green perched high above the sea, is an early highlight, a hole that rewards both courage and precision. Then comes the par-3 4th, played straight out towards the ocean, where club selection is as much about nerve as it is about distance. It’s the kind of hole you’ll want to play again the moment you’ve finished it.

The back nine turns up the drama even further — elevated tees, blind approaches, and putting surfaces that demand creativity. The 15th, a long par 4 that clings to the ridge line, might just be one of the most scenic holes in Asia, while the closing stretch from 16 to 18 delivers a finish that’s pure theatre. The 18th, tumbling downhill toward the clubhouse with the wind in your face, is a fitting finale to a course that never stops asking questions.

Despite its drama, The Bluffs is rarely unfair. It’s challenging, yes, but it always gives you options & angles to exploit, contours to use, and just enough forgiveness to keep hope alive. That balance between toughness and playability is what makes it so compelling.

Facilities are first-class, as you’d expect from a resort of this calibre. The clubhouse, perched high above the course, offers sweeping views of the dunes and the sea beyond, and there’s a warmth to the service that’s pure Vietnamese. Whether you’re unwinding after your round or simply soaking in the view with a drink in hand, it’s a place that invites you to linger.

The Bluffs is a course that gets under your skin. It’s golf stripped back to its most exhilarating form, shaped by nature, refined by design, and defined by its setting. Every hole tells a story, every shot demands a decision, and every visit leaves you wanting more.

So, if you’re looking for a golf experience that captures the wild, untamed beauty of Vietnam’s coast, The Bluffs Grand Ho Tram Strip should be at the very top of your list. It’s not just one of Asia’s great coastal courses, it’s one of the modern game’s true adventures.
