Where to Stay

Portugal

Portugal offers two distinct golfing regions, each with its own unique character and appeal.

To the west, the Lisbon Coast and Silver Coast are home to a selection of superb links-style courses set against a backdrop of windswept dunes, dramatic cliffs, and the rugged beauty of the Atlantic Ocean. This region blends natural charm with historic towns and a more traditional Portuguese feel. Golf here is often accompanied by cooler coastal breezes and spectacular ocean views, making it ideal for players who enjoy classic seaside layouts and a quieter, more cultural experience.

In the south lies the Algarve, Portugal’s most iconic golf destination. With its sun-drenched climate, calmer coastline, and mix of lively resort towns and quaint fishing villages, the Algarve is perfectly tailored to tourism. It boasts an impressive concentration of championship golf courses—many designed by legendary architects—alongside world-class hotels, luxury villas, and vibrant nightlife.

Both regions are easily accessible from the UK, with regular flights into Lisbon, Porto, and Faro. Whether you’re after the charm and challenge of coastal links or the sunshine and luxury of resort golf, Portugal offers something to suit every golfer’s ideal holiday.

Western Portugal

Oitavos Dunes, Lisbon

Stretching between the historic cities of Lisbon and Porto, Portugal’s Silver Coast is a captivating region defined by its rugged Atlantic coastline, golden sandy beaches, and timeless charm. This area offers a more traditional and authentic Portuguese experience, with fewer crowds than the Algarve and a strong sense of cultural heritage.

Lisbon and Porto, both within easy reach, provide an irresistible mix of history, architecture, and gastronomy—from UNESCO-listed landmarks and vibrant neighbourhoods to world-class dining and renowned local wines. Inland and along the coast, visitors can explore ancient fishing villages, hilltop monasteries, and sweeping ocean views that characterise this dramatic region.

For golfers, the Silver Coast is a true gem. It boasts some of Portugal’s finest and most scenic courses, many of which embrace the natural landscape and offer a genuine links-style challenge. Troia Golf, West Cliffs, Praia D’el Rey, and the stunning new Comporta Dunes are just a few standout names that make the region a top choice for discerning golf travellers.

Whether you're chasing championship-calibre golf, peaceful beachside escapes, or cultural discovery, Western Portugal delivers a rich and rewarding alternative to the more commercialised south—perfect for a memorable and well-rounded golf break.
