Golf Son Vida - Mallorca

Course Overview

Located just a few minutes from the centre of Palma within the prestigious hillside estate of Son Vida, Son Vida Golf holds a special place in Mallorca’s sporting history as the island’s oldest golf course. Opened in 1964 and originally designed by F.W. Hawtree, the course was extensively redesigned in 2001 by Kurt Rossknecht, creating a modern 18-hole, par-71 layout measuring around 5,600 metres from the back tees. Today it forms part of the renowned Arabella Golf Mallorca group alongside Son Muntaner and Son Quint.

Often described as the birthplace of golf on the island, Son Vida combines heritage and elegance with a strategic and enjoyable layout. The course winds through rolling hills, mature pine forests and luxury villas, offering sweeping views across the Bay of Palma and the surrounding countryside. Despite being relatively short by modern championship standards, its narrow fairways, sweeping doglegs and well-protected greens demand accuracy and careful course management throughout the round.

The front nine is typically tighter and more undulating, with tree-lined fairways that place a premium on positional play from the tee. The back nine opens out slightly, providing broader playing corridors and elevated vantage points that showcase the spectacular Mediterranean setting. Memorable holes include the dramatic downhill par-3 16th played across water, while the closing par-5 18th offers a classic risk-and-reward finish, tempting longer hitters to carry the lake and reach the green in two.

Son Vida also boasts an impressive tournament pedigree, having hosted the Balearic Open on the European Tour in 1990 and 1994, with legendary players such as Seve Ballesteros competing on its fairways.

With its rich history, scenic hillside setting and timeless design, Son Vida Golf offers a classic and characterful round of golf. Blending tradition with modern conditioning, it remains one of Mallorca’s most iconic and enjoyable courses to experience.
