Course Overview

Located just 20 minutes east of Palma in the heart of Mallorca, Son Gual Golf is widely regarded as one of the island’s finest championship courses. Opened in 2007 and designed by German architect Thomas Himmel, this impressive 18-hole, par-72 layout stretches to just over 6,600 metres from the back tees and sits within a vast 160-hectare private estate of rolling countryside, olive groves and vineyards. Privately owned and meticulously maintained, Son Gual has quickly established a reputation as one of the most prestigious golfing experiences in the Balearic Islands.

The course has a distinctly modern championship feel, combining wide, inviting fairways with strategically placed bunkers, lakes and streams that demand careful positioning from the tee. Over 800 olive trees frame the layout, while subtle elevation changes create excellent variety throughout the round. Although the generous landing areas encourage aggressive play, well-defended greens and clever approach angles mean precision is vital to scoring well.

Several memorable holes highlight the round, including the long par-3 9th, which plays over water towards the clubhouse terrace, and the demanding finishing stretch where water hazards and deep bunkering guard the greens. The closing par-5 18th, stretching to over 530 metres, provides a fitting finale as players navigate a winding stream and lakes before reaching the green beneath the clubhouse, often with spectators watching from the terrace above.
