Course Overview
Los Lagos at Mijas Golf International, opened in 1976 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., stands as the flagship course of one of the Costa del Sol’s most enduring golf venues. Stretching approximately 6,536 metres (par 72), the layout exemplifies Jones’s philosophy of “difficult par, easy bogey”—wide fairways with minimal rough, subtle undulations, and extensive water hazards that come into play across 11 of the 18 holes.
A complete renovation in 2012 restored the original design while modernising course infrastructure. Changes included enlargement of greens to USGA standards, extended tee platforms, enhanced irrigation and drainage systems, and rejuvenated bunkering—all executed with respect for the designer’s intent. Native groves featuring species such as jacarandas, fig, acacia, willow and even coconut trees frame the generous fairways, adding character and strategy alongside the prominence of water.
Los Lagos is celebrated for its balance of playability and challenge—suited to all abilities but rewarding precision and management from skilled players. Its visual and strategic qualities have firmly cemented it as one of Andalucía’s most popular and prestigious golf courses.
