Mijas Golf International - Los Olivos
Course Overview
Los Olivos Course at Mijas Golf Club, located near Fuengirola on Spain’s Costa del Sol, was introduced in 1984 as a complementary layout to the older Los Lagos course. Crafted by Robert Trent Jones Sr., it presents a deliberately contrasting test of golf: narrower, tree-lined fairways dominated by olive and casuarina trees, smaller elevated greens, and fewer water hazards.
The routing favours accuracy over distance—players with technical finesse will benefit most from its strategic layout. A major refurbishment around 2000–01 by Cabell Robinson (a disciple of Jones Sr.) modernised the infrastructure while preserving the original design ethos: subtle undulations, well-guarded greens, and plenty of character within a compact footprint of around 40 hectares.
Los Olivos plays to a par 71 over approximately 5,875 metres from the white tees and is well-suited to mid and high handicap golfers seeking accuracy, but it retains plenty of interest for more experienced players as well. With its walkable layout, tree lined serenity, and clean conditioning, it complements Los Lagos perfectly, offering a contrasting, technical round in a welcoming setting.
